Our thoughts are with Brussels
We are deeply saddened by the news of the events in Brussels this morning.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, says:
“On behalf of the community here at Lichfield Cathedral I want to extend our prayers and sympathy to the families of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist bombings at Brussels airport and the metro today.
Brussels is a lively, youthful, international and multi-cultural city with a very high proportion of global and European institutions having their headquarters there. It prides itself on its tolerance and inclusivity. Attacks such as this are designed to de-stabilise and demoralise. In the face of evil, people of faith, and all people of conscience, must come together to show our belief in the sovereignty of goodness and justice.
We will say special prayers this evening for the victims of the bombing, their families and the people of Belgium at our service of Choral Evensong at 1730. We will observe a minute’s silence after we have prayed and the Cathedral is open to all who wish to come and light candles and to pray.
A condolence book will also be in place to collect expressions of sympathy and solidarity.”
