Lichfield Cathedral to be illuminated for Christmas
On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 December, between 5pm and 9pm, the city of Lichfield will be treated to ‘A Cathedral Illuminated’, a stunning display of festive projections on the west front of Lichfield Cathedral.
Renowned Sculptor and Artist in Residence at the Cathedral, Peter Walker, will create the projections alongside composer David Harper who has also created original music for the show. They collaborate under the name Luxmaralis.
Peter Walker hosted a successful exhibition in the summer entitled ‘A City as Sculpture’, which saw the Cathedral and its grounds adorned with magnificent sculptures and paintings. His return this Christmas will see him use the medium of light projection to make the festive spirit come alive in Lichfield. The show will last approximately 40 minutes and will be repeated throughout the events on both nights.
Peter says: "We are delighted to be able to bring this projection work to Lichfield and to the stunning façade of the Cathedral. The event comes at the start of what will be a new programme of work through my residency at the Cathedral where there will be many exhibitions and such events. It is also the start of a new ongoing programme of projection and sound events around the area which we are developing for the coming years."
