Celebrating the Beauty of Blooms: The Flower Guild at Lichfield Cathedral
When Pam Black retired and relocated to Lichfield eight years ago, little did she know that her journey would lead her to a vibrant community within Lichfield Cathedral. As she reminisces on her time so far as a Cathedral volunteer and member of the Flower Guild, Pam reflects on the impact it has had on her life.
"I became a Cathedral volunteer and joined the Flower Guild when I retired and moved to Lichfield 8 years ago," Pam shares. "As a result, I have made many friends and acquired new skills and confidence through getting to know this friendly and supportive team."
For Pam and her fellow guild members, the Flower Guild isn't just about arranging flowers—it's about cultivating friendships and fostering a sense of belonging within the Cathedral community. "Spending time in the Cathedral together and working with flowers to create something special is very rewarding," Pam notes.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Flower Guild is its inclusivity and passion for all things floral. "We are not trained florists!" Pam exclaims. "We have a love of all things floral and share our skills and ideas to create a peaceful and colourful background which we hope reflects the beauty of the Cathedral and its Ministry."
As Easter approaches, the Flower Guild gears up for one of its busiest times of the year. "Easter is the beginning of the flower arranging year," Pam explains. "After the quiet and reflective time of Lent, we decorate the Cathedral with bright and joyful Spring flowers."
Behind the scenes, a flurry of activity ensues as guild members meticulously select, prepare, and arrange flowers to commemorate each important date and festival in the church calendar. But their efforts don't stop there—they also provide arrangements for weddings and special events, adding a touch of floral elegance to every occasion.
"The positive comments and encouragement we receive from the Cathedral community and visitors make our work worthwhile," Pam shares. "We really enjoy playing our part in making the Cathedral welcoming and inclusive."
As Pam reflects on her journey with the Flower Guild, her passion and dedication shine through. "Joining the Flower Guild has been a truly enriching experience," she concludes. "I've found a sense of purpose, friendship, and creativity that I never expected. It's truly a privilege to be a part of such a wonderful community."
If Pam's story has inspired you to get involved, we warmly welcome new volunteers to join the Flower Guild. Whether you're a seasoned florist or simply have a love for flowers, there's a place for you in our vibrant community. Come and be a part of something truly special at Lichfield Cathedral.
