Glorious Bach
A work as splendid as Bach’s B minor Mass needs an equally splendid venue for its performance, so Birmingham Festival Choral Society is delighted to be returning to Lichfield Cathedral to sing this wonderful music! The authentic sound of the 18th Century will be created by the period instruments of The Musical and Amicable Society, and the beautiful arias will be sung by a quartet of top vocal soloists.
Birmingham Festival Choral Society is a big chorus of men and women who love singing. The ‘Festival’ in our name derives from the fact that we were formed for the big Birmingham Triennial Festivals – our first concert being the 1846 premiere of Elijah in Birmingham Town Hall, conducted by Mendelssohn himself. Felix Mendelssohn was the driving force behind the revival of Bach’s music in the 19th Century, so he would be have been delighted to know that works such as Bach’s B Minor Mass are still thrilling choirs and audiences two centuries later.
We do hope that you will be able to join us for our performance of Bach’s B minor Mass on Saturday 16th March at 7.30pm.
