Lichfield Cathedral receives grant
Lichfield Cathedral has received a grant of £22,000 from the Benefact Trust towards fabric repairs over the next two years.
The Benefact Trust is the new name for the Allchurches Trust, which since 1972 has awarded over £235m to churches, Christian charities and communities. This latest grant comes as the Cathedral has launched its ReSource appeal to raise £2m to address significant fabric repairs and support the community in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The repairs are essential to ensure the safety of the building and its continued ability to open for worshippers, visitors and the local community in the future. Already, significant progress has been made to address urgent masonry repair to the flying buttresses on the south side of the Cathedral. Over the next two years, work will move to the Cathedral’s iconic central spire. In early 2019, high winds caused by Storm Gareth damaged the spire and the tower below remains closed until the repairs can be made.
The Cathedral has already raised over £1.4 million towards its goal – any support you can give will make a huge difference. To contribute to ReSource, please click here.
