Not Hallowe'en but the Eve of All Hallows
While some will be enjoying the ghostly goings-on of Hallowe’en, Lichfield Cathedral will be celebrating the ‘Eve of All Hallows’ from which Hallowe’en takes its name, ‘All Hallows’ being the name for All Saints Day when Christians remember all those who down the centuries have handed on their faith from generation to generation.
On Tuesday 2nd November at 7.30pm there will be a special service at Lichfield Cathedral for All Souls Day, when we will be remembering our own departed family and friends, and especially those who have died over the past twelve months. A book will be available in the Cathedral from Monday 25th October for the names to be recorded of those who have died this year and their names will be read at the special service.
The Rt Revd Jan McFarlane who will be preaching at the service said, “All Souls Day is the traditional time for us to remember by name those who have died and whom we still love and miss. As always, the Cathedral will be open for those who wish to light candles and remember their loved ones, and all are welcome to attend the special services that day.”
