Extended Times of Reflection
As Lichfield enters Tier 3 of the national COVID restrictions, Lichfield Cathedral is opening its doors for extended times of prayer and reflection.
“Whilst we are unable to open for our usual visiting times, we recognise that many seek out a quiet place of calm during the often chaotic and stressful festive period,” explains The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield. “We recognise that for many this time of year can be bittersweet as loss is felt more deeply and the strain of the events of 2020 start to take their toll. For this reason we made the decision to open a larger area of the Cathedral for longer periods set aside for quiet reflection and prayer.”
The Cathedral will be open Monday-Saturday 10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00 from Thursday 3 December and Sundays 12:30-16:00. During these times people can enter the Cathedral and find a place of peace and rest. There will be quiet music playing and spaces for people to light candles, contemplate the beautifully written icons, reflect on the Christmas story at the crib scene, soak up the atmosphere and pray.
“As a central point in the city of Lichfield, the Cathedral offers hope, peace and a place of rest to the whole community. We want people to feel able to enter, rest and pray in the safety and comfort of this magnificent place of worship,” Dorber concludes.
Opening times and details of any exceptions during this busy festive period can be found on the Cathedral’s website: www.lichfield-cathedral.org and their social media channels.
