Wrap up Warm & Sing Along
This Advent & Christmas is likely to be remembered for many years to come, as some celebrations are curtailed and everyone tries to make the most of this period in line with government restrictions. Welcome news on Sunday 28 November saw regulations on congregational singing changed to allow outdoor singing from 2 December. This is indeed good news for those who enjoy nothing more than signing along to traditional carols in the festive season.
Lichfield Cathedral has planned a selection of special outdoor services, at which everyone (choir and congregation) will be allowed to sing their hearts out to their favourite tunes and get into the spirit of the season – but don’t forget to wrap up warm!
Each outdoor service will be ticketed (free) to the public to ensure safe numbers of people outside of the Cathedral and the services are already proving popular (with some of the carol services sold out within 3 days).
The first outdoor service will take place on 13 December and will see a traditional lantern service alongside the lighting of the Christmas tree. There are two special Carols Around the Tree services on 19 December at 14:00 & 15:00, featuring a live brass band.
The final outdoor service is the ever-popular Christmas Eve Crib Service at 15:00 where there will be live retelling of the Christmas story. Families are invited to come along dressed as a nativity character to join in with the joy of the season.
Tickets can be booked on the Cathedral’s website here. Events are free to attend but tickets do need to be booked in ensure safe numbers and comply with Test & Trace.
