Lichfield Cathedral is Fully Alive
Watch out for an action-packed, fun-filled year in 2020 with Lichfield Cathedral. Each year the Cathedral launches a yearly theme that is woven through every event, service, exhibition and art project.
2019 saw the theme ‘Journeys Through Space, Light & Time’ as they celebrated 50 years since the first moon landing and explored the relationship between science & religion: Free family activities, a 36m replica of the surface of the moon, a space-themed The Great Exhibition, a Science & Religion lecture series, 40,000 people involved in creating ‘A Constellation of Images’ across the West Midlands and a light and sound spectacular to kick-off the Christmas period.
In 2020 Lichfield Cathedral will be celebrating, exploring and discovering what it means to be truly human and fully alive. Taking this theme, the Cathedral will be looking at what makes us human, what creates happiness and joy, how our lives change as we get older and what being fully alive means as thread through the year.
January 2020 starts with an exhibition: Nurturing Spiritual Life that explores how people have nurtured their spiritual life within the Christian tradition through 1500 years. From the early days of Christianity where the Bible was hand copied on manuscripts in Latin, to modern times where anyone can read the Bible on their smart phones.
The rest of the year promises art projects, family activities, street parties, film festivals, light shows, lectures, exhibitions and much more.
