Lichfield Cathedral bags Staffordshire Tourist Attraction Award
Lichfield Cathedral has been named the What’s On Staffordshire Tourist Attraction of the Year for the second year running.
And that’s not all.
Through the partnership with Luxmuralis the cathedral has picked up the Staffordshire Event of the Year for Cathedral Illuminated for the third year running.
The cathedral beat off stiff competition from around the county including Alton Towers, Drayton Manor Park and the National Memorial Arboretum.
The cathedral picked up the award in the competition which saw more than 60,000 votes cast for attractions in the What’s On magazine coverage area of Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
Cathedral Illuminated - includes work by artist, Peter Walker and composer, David Harper who collaborate as Luxmuralis. Peter is currently working on a stunning new piece - a statue of St Chad which will be cast in bronze and situated in The Close facing Dam Street. It will be a lasting monument to this central figure in Lichfield’s history.
The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Rev. Adrian Dorber said: “We are grateful for the public’s trust and confidence. We try very hard to make the Cathedral a welcoming place for the whole community, and we are delighted that the public has responded so warmly.”
The awards were presented at a special ceremony last week.
