New Canon Precentor Appointed

Dear Friends
I am delighted to be able to share with you the news that we have a new Canon Precentor!
Following a two day interview process, Bishop Michael has appointed the Revd Jonathan Bish, currently Vicar of the United Benefice of Batley in the Diocese of Leeds. A photograph of Jonathan is attached.
Jonathan impressed the interview panel with his enthusiasm and energy; his knowledge and understanding of music, worship and liturgy; his understanding of governance; and his wide experience of ministry, including at St Albans Cathedral and latterly at Wakefield Cathedral, where he sings in the choir as a tenor at two evensongs each week.
Jonathan writes, "I'm delighted to have accepted the Bishop of Lichfield's offer of the post of Canon Precentor in his cathedral. Lichfield Cathedral is a place where prayer and pilgrimage, service and song have joined together countless thousands of people in the worship of almighty God. It joins together people from across the diocese and across time, from St Chad's day until our own. The word 'precentor' means one who leads people in singing. As someone who is a singer and has been shaped by the worship of cathedrals at many times in my life, I am eager to join in the joy that I know shapes your service to God and his people. I'm looking forward to joining the team and getting to know everyone who calls Lichfield Cathedral 'their cathedral'."
He is married to the Revd Dr Jo Kershaw, who teaches at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield.
Jonathan will be collated and installed at Evensong (3.30pm) on Sunday 07 June and I do hope as many of you as possible will wish to be there to welcome him and Jo.
With all good wishes
+Jan
