Spring What's On is out...

A Message from +Jan, Dean of Lichfield:
Welcome to Lichfield Cathedral
Welcome to your Cathedral – both to our regular friends and Cathedral family, and also to our visitors, old and new. This is your Cathedral and you’re always welcome here.
Welcome to my Cathedral – where you can discover more about how the Christian faith can change lives, so that you can say this is my faith. I belong.
Welcome to our Cathedral – where we understand that no-one needs to be alone and that together as a community we can care for one other, and together we can serve the wider world.
Welcome to Lichfield Cathedral – your, my, our Cathedral.
And welcome to What’s On and a full and varied programme of events to take us through the hope-filled days of Spring.
We begin with an exhibition of the best-selling book of all time, with an estimated 7.5 billion copies bought or distributed across the world. Come and see ancient copies of this life-changing book, and perhaps be inspired to buy a modern translation from our shop, and discover for yourself why this book - the Bible - can still change lives today.
With all the troubles in the world around us (and the Church is not immune from problems) it’s tempting to imagine there was once a ‘golden age’ when life was rosy. But the reality is that life has always been complicated. Lent is traditionally a time for reflection, and our Lent Course gives an opportunity to look to the past to help us to negotiate the future.
Mothering Sunday falls on the Fourth Sunday of Lent. As we give thanks for ‘Mother Church’ and all who offer us a mother’s love, we will combine our regular celebrations with a quieter, more reflective evening service. Why not bring someone who might be finding it a difficult day this year, or come along simply for a time to reflect and to be still in a frantic and uncertain world.
Lent leads us into Holy Week and Easter – the most important week in the Church’s year. Journey with us as we learn how God transforms betrayal, despair and death into faith, hope and life. If you’ve never attended services through Holy Week, you’ve missed not just beautiful music and moving readings but a chance to reflect on some of the deepest questions about death and life. Do join us!
Amidst it all, our popular concerts continue with something for everyone, from Adele to Elgar. Or simply enjoy the beauty of this remarkable Cathedral. It is your, my, our Cathedral and you are always, always welcome here.
