Prayers for Ukraine
A Message from the Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield
We lament the invasion of Ukraine and fear for the consequences: We are in a perilous situation where war in Europe is more likely than it ever has been since 1945.
Many cathedrals will be wanting to minister to the natural fears and anxieties raised by the invasion and will be offering space for prayer, candle lighting and opportunities to voice the outrage and worry many will feel.
Each Thursday from 3 March, a member of the clergy team will lead prayers for Ukraine from 12 noon to 12.30. Please do join us if you can to light candles and offer prayers for peace. A prayer station will also be available during our opening hours.
We can only hold this tragedy before God and pray Jesus's last words on the cross:" Father forgive" and then ask the Holy Spirit to equip us to be peace-makers, healers and reconcilers through practical acts of compassion and the pressure we bring to bear on leaders and governments to work for peace founded on justice.
