VIRTUAL VISITS AT LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL
In response to the current global pandemic and resulting lockdown of all but essential travel, Lichfield Cathedral has taken a proactive approach to using the latest technology to provide solutions to government restrictions. Since the lockdown, 4 weeks ago, Lichfield Cathedral has launched a Virtual Prayer Wall and hosted over 60 live streamed or pre-recorded videos. The latest launch, in collaboration with UK Surveyors Ltd, is a 3D Virtual Tour of the Cathedral.
The 3D Virtual Tour will allow visitors from all over the world to explore the Cathedral at their own pace, to virtually walk down the aisles, gaze at the architecture and exquisite craftmanship from the comfort of their own homes. Whether visitors have been before in person, or have never set foot in the Cathedral, the tour is sure to delight and amaze.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield said: “These last few weeks have been challenging, as we’ve learnt to live, worship and socialise in a different way. Like many of our regular visitors and worshippers, I have missed taking a walk around the Cathedral and soaking up the atmosphere of this sacred site. I am delighted that we are able to offer a virtual tour so that people can access the majesty of the Cathedral and the services we have to offer to the wider community.”
Lichfield-based UK Surveyors have digitally mapped both the internal and external areas of the Cathedral from multiple angles to create a Fully Interactive 3D Tour that offers visitors an experience like nothing they have ever seen before.
The Directors of UK Surveyors Ltd state that: "Being chosen to undertake the digitally mapping of Lichfield Cathedral is a great honour as the building is the most prominent structure within the county which includes some very interesting and intriguing architectural features.”
