The Word workshopper just announced as first poet laureate for Wolverhampton
We are pleased as punch to announce that one of our workshoppers for our first poetry festival this November has been chosen to represent her home city as Wolverhampton’s first ever Poet Laureate.
Emma Purshouse is a freelance writer, performance poet, and comedienne who hails from Wolverhampton. She performs her work nationally, is a published author - writing both for adults and children - and a poetry slam champion.
She has a degree in English, and an MA in creative writing, enjoys writing flash fiction and has won and been shortlisted for both local and national competitions.
As Wolverhampton’s first poet laureate, Emma will act as a champion of poetry for the city, raising its profile and working on events during the Wolverhampton Literature Festival from Friday 31 January to 2 February 2020 and throughout the year.
Emma, said: “I am absolutely over the moon to have been chosen to represent my home city in the honorary role of Wolverhampton Poet Laureate.
Emma is also an experienced workshop facilitator and will join us for our first Poetry Festival, The Word with a workshop designed to get you creating and writing poetry using newspaper stories, magazine articles and old books as inspiration.
