Christmas Tree Festival 2018
Around 50 charities and businesses have secured their place in this year’s Lichfield Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival which will run from 1 December until 6 January 2019.
The Cathedral is at the heart of the city’s Christmas celebrations, from the illuminations that bring people in their thousands to see the Cathedral filled with light, to the Christmas Trees that will line the aisles.
The way the Christmas Tree festival works is quite simple. For £200 (discounted for registered charities) participants get a 5ft Nordmann fir tree with lights, to decorate as they wish.
It’s a way for charities and businesses to tell the world what they are doing at Christmas.
Visitors to the Cathedral will be able to vote for their favourite tree, and in January a presentation will be made to the winning entries.
For the winning school and charity, there will be a cash prize of £250 while the winning business will receive a Christmas tree shaped trophy.
The trees this year will be accompanied by a spectacular installation of 20,000 paper Doves by the cathedral Artist-in-residence Peter Walker and the event will feature in the multi award-winning ‘Cathedral Illuminated’ light installation which runs from 17 until 22 December.
