Cathedral Illuminated returns bringing 'Peace on Earth'
Sponsored by Keely's LLP
‘Outstanding’, ‘Fantastic’ and ‘Mind-blowing’ just some of the responses from 2017’s The Cathedral Illuminated which is now entering its fourth year, bringing the spirit of Christmas to Staffordshire - ‘the creative county’.
After winning the ‘What’s On Readers Award’ for ‘Best Event in Staffordshire’ twice over, the artistic collaboration Luxmuralis return to Lichfield Cathedral offering a new spectacular light and sound experience for all the family.
As well as all new projections, the illuminations will include bespoke music from Luxmuralis composer David Harper. The ticket only event will include access to the Close with multiple projections around the Cathedral, the spectacular projection on the front of the Cathedral, a unique view of the 20,000 Dove installation, as well as readings of the nativity and a trip through the enchanting Christmas tree festival.
Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield said “I am delighted to welcome back the illuminations and the thousands of people this brings to the Cathedral and city. This annual event has become a curtain-raiser for families celebrating Christmas. We offer a sincere welcome and a way of reflecting on the joy and hope of the season. The Illuminations continue our theme of the year ‘Imagine Peace’, with Christmas and the birth of the Prince of Peace, a fitting way to end the year.”
Peter Walker, Artist in Residence and lead artist of the creative collaboration Luxmuralis notes “Every year we try and bring something new to the illuminations, and for 2018 it is bigger and better. It is fantastic that this has become a tradition to many families in the area and that people now visit the Cathedral illuminated from around the country.”
