Lichfield Cathedral’s Birthday Celebrations for the Queen
Lichfield Cathedral is set to host a selection of exciting events and activities to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday.
On Saturday 11th June, the Cathedral bells will ring out across the city at 11am in honour of the Queen.
At 9am on Sunday 12 June, there will be a Congregational Eucharist with Hymns, followed by ‘Vivat Regina!’, a service of Thanksgiving for 90 glorious years, at 11am.
This day will also see the return of the popular ‘Big Lunch’ on the Cathedral lawns. Everyone is invited to round up their friends and family and join us for a picnic from 12.30pm. Visitors will have the option of bringing their own picnic, or purchasing a lunch from one of the world food stalls available on the day.
The festivities will conclude at 3pm with a ‘Songs of Praise’ style service, which will reflect aspects of the nine decades of Her Majesty’s life. Making this service extra special, the Cathedral’s music team are putting together a massed choir to sing for the occasion, and are looking for singers to take part. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Cathy Lamb, Music Director at cathy.lamb@lichfield-cathedral.org or call 01543 306100 for more details.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, says: “This is an historic occasion for our country, and it seems fitting that we should celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday with some memorable services and events here at the Cathedral. We do hope you’ll all come along and take part. Lichfield always enjoys celebrating big national celebrations and the Cathedral enjoys playing host to them.”
