Take up one of the many opportunities to volunteer for Team Cathedral. You’ll be joining a friendly, diverse team, and gaining valuable experience as you play your part in this community.
We have many hospitality based volunteering opportunities, which include Guides, Welcomers, Stewards, Servers, Readers, Events, Children’s Church and administrative roles.
Tower Tour Leader
Following restoration work carried out on the central spire at Lichfield Cathedral, funded by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are very pleased that our always popular tower tours will be returning in summer 2024.
We are searching for volunteer guides to lead these inspiring tours. The tours include climbing over 200 steps through narrow spaces up into the hidden spaces high above the Cathedral and out on to the rooftops and so guides will need to be able to complete this climb while delivering an informative and entertaining tour.
Tours will last for around 90 minutes, and we ask volunteers to offer to help with at least 2 tours a month. Full training will be provided, and further details can be found in the role description. If you have a head for heights and a passion for sharing history, please do get in touch with us to find out more.
To find out more please see the role description which can be downloaded here.
Shop Volunteer
We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help ensure that all visitors to our new Cathedral Shop have a memorable experience. To find out more about the role please see the role description.

Welcomer
Our wonderful team of Welcomer volunteers give a warm welcome to all the visitors to the Cathedral during our public visiting hours. They help to ensure that all our visitors have an enjoyable visit. Along with greeting visitors, our Welcomers help to provide information and answer queries and are sensitive to the individual needs of our visitors.
If you enjoy meeting new people and are interested in helping people to discover the rich history of our Cathedral and its life today this could be the perfect volunteer role for you.
To find out more please see the role description which can be downloaded here.
Stewards
Our Stewards help ensure the smooth running of services and other functions at the Cathedral. They have a public-facing role which involves meeting and greeting members of the congregation attending services and visitors to any of the very varied and enjoyable functions held in the Cathedral.
