Spire Project Volunteers

Lichfield Cathedral Central Spire:
Restore, Reopen, Reveal

Lichfield Cathedral has been awarded a grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to repair its central spire. The 12-month project will restore the structure, reopen the space to visitors, and explore what the landmark means to the community. By conducting oral history interviews with individuals, community groups and craftspeople we have a unique opportunity to gather stories about the cathedral and its famous spire. Recording memories will help bring to life the history and culture of the site and provide an opportunity to reflect upon the past, present and future of this iconic building, while preserving a legacy for future generations.

At the end of the project, our collection of stories will be available through a new digital resource and will form the basis for a forthcoming exhibition at the Cathedral.

To be part of this exciting new project as an Oral History Interviewer or helping with Records and Data Management at Lichfield Cathedral, please read our role descriptions for further details.
