"Every school should have the opportunity to be involved in projects such as Music Share."
What is Music Share?
“Music Share is a simple idea – take a small group of choristers to a school and work with the pupils and their teacher on singing activities. This simple idea has benefited hundreds of young people and their teachers by the delivery of such a project in their schools. They have had access to music making of the highest quality, been exposed to excellent, suitable repertoire and a chance to perform in a beautiful environment. The impact on boys’ singing has been significant. The effect on those involved in Music Share, pupils, teachers and parents has been profound.
Levels of achievement have risen due to the quality of the provision and the commitment of the deliverers. Every school should have the opportunity to be involved in projects such as Music Share”. - Jenny Mason, Deputy Head of Music and Performing Arts Service, Entrust.
MusicShare is now officially part of the Staffordshire and Stoke Music Education Hub, who have given a large amount of funding for extra projects from April 2015-April 2016, and again from 2016 - 2017.
MusicShare began in 2003. Each term, three schools have been involved, with nearly 200 children singing at each concert. In September 2007, the government launched its National Singing Campaign Sing Up, which worked to get singing back into the heart of every child in the nation.
Cathedral Chorister Outreach projects from across the country were drawn into this campaign and Lichfield was thrilled to gain large government grants in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in order to broaden the scope of the MusicShare project. Sadly 'Sing Up' funding drew to a close, but we were so passionate about the project that we have kept it going. As part of Music Share we set up Lichfield Cathedral Young Voices and Lichfield Cathedral Youth Voices and have been involved in many concerts and events, hosted Curriculum Singing Days, and worked with The Sixteen and performed in premier venues such as Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
