LENT AT THE CATHEDRAL
Lent is a season of forty days, (excluding Sundays) which this year begins on Ash Wednesday, 1 March, and ends on Holy Saturday, 15 April. It is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter.
Lent Lecture Series
On Thursdays during March
In this Lent Lecture Series, the Dean of Lichfield, the Very Reverend Adrian Dorber, will be looking at the meaning of the Cross and how the Biblical writers, later theologians, artists and poets have thought about and portrayed the Cross.
The series is offered to all Church people in the Diocese of Lichfield and to members, friends and supporters of Lichfield Cathedral.
The Lectures are a series and are not designed as ‘one-offs’, so please try and attend them all – they will make more sense that way. To cover costs there is a modest course contribution of £10.00 per person.

Wednesday during Lent, 8 March - 5 April | 18.30 - 19.30
The Cathedral will be open for a period of silent prayer and reflection on Wednesdays during Lent. You may find it helpful to pray at the Shrine of St Chad, or in front of the Blessed Sacrament on the Lady Chapel altar, or in front of the Icons, or pray the Stations of the Cross, or to sit with a Bible and reflect upon the scriptures. There will also be a priest on call if you would like to talk or need some spiritual guidance. The hour will conclude with the saying of the late evening reflective service of Compline at 19.15. You are very welcome to drop in for all or some of the time.
'Through Passion': Visualising the Gospel
Saturday 25 February - Monday 17 April 2017
Every year the Cathedral stages a special devotional exhibition focusing on the ‘Stations’ (i.e. stopping places) of the Cross. This year, we welcome the return of Iain McKillop whose previous work has been very well received in Lichfield.
On Sunday 5 March there will be a special devotional walk-through the series of paintings with commentary and prayers, beginning at 16.30.
Each Sunday at Choral Evensong, at 15:00, the homily will focus on different Stations of the Cross, marking the path Jesus walked through Jerusalem.
