The Lichfield Prize 2016
The Lichfield Prize returns for its third year with prizes worth £1,000!
Emporium, in association with Lichfield Festival, is looking for emerging and established artists across the UK to participate in their annual visual arts competition.
Under the exhibition title of Shadow*, artists are invited to creatively interpret this theme with paintings, drawings, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, or photography.
First Prize
- £500 cash sponsored by tinyCOW
- A solo exhibition at emporium
Finalists work will be exhibited here at Lichfield Cathedral alongside an exhibition of selected entries at emporium for the duration of Lichfield Festival.

*Some suggested definitions of Shadow:
Umbra, partial darkness, twilight, obscurity, silhouette, contour, spectral, reflected image.
More interpretations:
To cast a shadow – vague omen, ominous threat, a source of gloom or doub
To overshadow – outshine, darken, transcend
To be shadowed - follow, observe closely, track
Without a shadow of doubt – trace, shred, scintilla
A shadow of a smile – hint, ghost, glimmer vague
A shadow of his former self – vestige, remnant, timidity, poor imitation
He became her shadow – inseparable companion, alter ego, close friend.
