‘His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence’
2 Peter 1:3
Lichfield Cathedral is a beautiful, special and spiritual place, imbued with the thoughts and memories of all those that have come here. It is a building that has witnessed the passing of history from the consecration of the first Cathedral at the heart of the Saxon Kingdom of Mercia, to the turmoil of the Civil War when it suffered much damage and onto the tragedy of the wars of the 20th Century, with many of those who died commemorated in the beautiful St Michael’s Chapel. Throughout time, the Cathedral has been the beating heart of Lichfield and the surrounding diocese, serving the community, bringing spiritual comfort and acting as a beacon of light and life.
This is a spiritual and a physical place that evokes the memories and echoes of the past, where the statues and memorials leave us to consider the mystery of lives and people long gone, and to contemplate what the future may hold. All those who visit and worship with us, become part of our story and part of our legacy. It is this, combined with the beauty of the architecture of the Cathedral, that makes this such a special and unique place in the landscape.
