Who are the friends and what do they do?

Who are the Friends?

The Friends have been part of the Cathedral community since 1937. There are presently approximately 1200 Friends of Lichfield Cathedral from all over the world and they enjoy fellowship, raising funds and having the opportunity to take part in events and visits that are organised.

What do the Friends do?

The aims of the organisation are:

  • to further the religious and other charitable work of Lichfield Cathedral.
  • to assist and promote the restoration, maintenance, repair and improvement of the Cathedral and to support the worship, music and ministry of the Cathedral.
  • to bring people with an interest in the Cathedral together in fellowship, and in particular to strengthen the bond between the Cathedral and the Diocese.

What Have The Friends Achieved?

What have the friends achieved? What have the friends achieved? Over the last 20 years the Friends have provided vital funding for many Cathedral projects, including:

  • The East End Appeal which concentrates on the restoration of the masonry and stonework and the reinstallation of the precious Herkenrode painted glass once it too has been restored.
  • The updating and management of the Cathedral website
  • The bid to develop the Chapter House exhibition which will include the Lichfield Gospels, the Lichfield Angel and a part of the Staffordshire Hoard.
  • Provision of Crib figures for the Nativity scene
  • Installation of the rising altar podium in the Nave Sanctuary
